Commissioning of a SGT 800

The Al Zahra substation on the southwestern outskirts of Tripoli, where a gas-fired power plant with three Siemens SGT-800 gas turbines has been under construction since April 2018.

Major parts of a gas turbine were badly damaged by artillery fire and later also by a fire.

All three generator machines have 10.5 kV generator voltage, which is increased to 30 kV in machine transformers and fed into the customer’s own switchgear via cable. Ancillary operations are supplied with 240/400 V; also 110 V and 12 V DC voltage used for protection and control circuits.

The analysis of the damage and the procurement of the necessary spare parts took until 2020. The second machine “GT2” had turbine damage in September 2019, the repair of which had not yet been confirmed. This machine is therefore completely out of service. Vibrations repeatedly occurred on the “GT3” machine, the cause of which has also not yet been identified. The investigation and repairs were carried out successfully.
